Social Fishtance

The installation is designed to understand social distancing, and explore the tension between intimacy and isolation. Inspired by the hyper-controlled environment of koi shows, where the contestants are transported and showcased in transparent fish bags. These temporary containers mirror our own negotiated spaces. What happens when these rules become invisible, yet still govern how we interact?

By repurposing these fish bags as sonic chambers, the work invites the audience to navigate a hidden rule system:
The audio landscape only activates when the partcipant finds and occupies the precise "sweet spot" within the installation. Like a koi judged for its perfect scale alignment, your movement must adhere to the invisible parameters.

This is not just about physical distance, but the fragile agreements we make to share space. The work asks: Who sets these rules? How do we learn them? And what do we lose when compliance becomes second nature?

IT IS ALL FOR YOUR BENEFIT! /
我都係為你好!

The work explores the dynamics between parental expectations and children's experiences, often justified under the guise of “I am doing this for your good!” The design of the two-end tube emphasizes the idea of a one-sided dialogue and visually represents how parents often dominate conversations, projecting their voices (and opinions) onto their children.

Memoryscape

(work with LIN Yuxin)

The project explores the interplay between dreams and memories, emphasizing how they shape our identity and perception of reality. Memories of childhood are often tied to cultural experiences and artifacts. Memoryscape aims to evoke nostalgia through visual elements that resonate with Chinese children.

Memory Reconstruction

Memory Reconstruction challenges perceptions of time and reality. By merging incidents, venues, and characters from different time cues, it creates a new timeline for viewers to explore. This transformative experience invites contemplation of the interconnectedness of past, present, and future. Boundaries dissolve, giving rise to new narratives and revelations.

Tradition of  Leftovers

Tradition of Leftovers is a serial artwork created with epoxy resin and repurposed leftovers. Inspired by the Chinese New Year tradition of bundling special food with red envelopes(壓年), these art pieces serve as both recycling efforts and preservers of symbolic memories. Through the use of discarded materials, the artwork embodies sustainability and resourcefulness. The epoxy resin medium symbolizes the integration of past and present. Each piece incorporates leftovers, representing a tangible link to the New Year feasts and cherished moments. The artwork becomes a vessel for these memories, evoking nostalgia and honoring cultural significance.

LOVE in the Air

This project draws inspiration from the social phenomenon of grand-parenting in skipped-generation families, where children are raised primarily by their grandparents. In Chinese culture, there is a saying that warns against being a "flower growing in the greenhouse," symbolizing overprotected and sheltered lives. Recognizing the significant impact of parental absence on children's development, the project embarked on an exploration of the intricate relationship between children and their grandparents within the cultural context of skipped generation households.
